LOCAL SECRETARY’S CIRCULAR

Dear Delegates,

I feel most privileged in welcoming you all, on behalf of Indian History Congress to the 84th Session at Govt. Brennen College, Dharmadam, Thalassery, Kannur, to be held between 28th -30th December 2025. It gives us immense pleasure in extending to you a warm and cordial invitation to participate in the deliberations of the session.

The Host:

Government Brennen College, Dharmadam, Thalassery is one of the premier institutions of higher education in the state of Kerala. With a tradition of 135 years, the college is catering to the comprehensive advancement of the various sections of the society in the region. Developed out of the Free School established in 1862 by Edward Brennen, the institution was elevated to the status of Grade II College in 1890. It has now emerged as a centre of excellence with the status of ‘Heritage’ by the UGC. The College offers nineteen Under Graduate and thirteen Post Graduate courses. There are eleven research departments. The alumni and faculty of the college have made stellar contributions to the political, literary, scientific and entrepreneurial firmaments since its inception. They include the current Chief Minister of Kerala, current Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly, MLA’s, MP’s, Jnanpith awardees, etc. The College is accredited with A+ grade (CGPA 3.33) by NAAC in the third Cycle of accreditation in 2021.

The College is situated in Dharmadam Panchayat, Kannur District, Kerala. It is located five kilometers towards north from Thalassery Municipal town and one kilometer towards east from National Highway 66. Kannur International Airport is 24 KM away from the College. The nearest Railway stations are Thalassery and Kannur, where all express trains stop.  Dharmadam is a historically important place in North Kerala, being a port town of early historic period, a centre of Buddhist and Islamic religious practices in medieval era, and a hub of colonial trade in the modern period.  Both have decent hotels and other points of accommodation for the delegates. Dharmadam beach and Muzhappilangad drive in beach that add to the beauty of the region attract large numbers of tourists from all parts of the country.

About Kannur:

Kannur is a seaside city located in Kerala. It used to be an ancient trading harbour. Lasting structures like St. Angelo Fort, built in the sixteenth century illustrates the city’s important position in the spice trade. The Arakkal Museum, situated in a former royal residence, showcases the history of Kerala’s only Muslim royal family.   Kannur is home to breathtaking beaches including Payyambalam and Asia’s longest drive-in beach, Muzhappilangad. Another well-known aspect of Kannur is its traditional handloom sector.

Known for its colonial past and association with the East India Company, Thalassery is a historic town close to Kannur.

Reception and Registration:

The reception counter at the college campus will function from the evening of
27th December 2025 till 30th December 2025. Our volunteers will receive the delegates at the Railway station / airport. Registration will be done at the Government Brennen College campus from 27th evening. The Registration desk will begin its operation from 07 a.m on 28th December and will function till the noon of 29th December. At the registration counters, preference will be given to those delegates who have already sent delegate fee and submitted the online delegate registration form.

Registration Fee and Payment Modes

Keeping in mind the cost of conducting the conference, the Organizing Committee has decided on the following differential

Registration Fee Structure:

  • Delegate fee for all (with hotel accommodation): 5000/- on Sharing Basis
  • Delegate fee for all (with hostel accommodation): 3000/ – on Sharing Basis
  • Delegate Fee for all locals without accommodation) Rs 2500/-
  • Delegate Fee for Students/ Research Scholars (without accommodation) 2000/-

The last date for receiving online payment is 30/11/2025, and by DD is 15/11/2025. All participants will have to register online with their transaction ID and copy of the receipt. Annual Members must provide proof of payment of their membership fee for the current year. Life Members must provide the correct membership number.
