Professor Kesavan Veluthat is a distinguished scholar who has made significant contributions to the field of history. He served as a Professor in the Department of History at Delhi University from 2009 to 2016 and later as the Chairman of the Department of History at Mangalore University. Professor Veluthat’s academic engagements have extended beyond national borders, as evidenced by his tenure as a visiting professor at esteemed institutions such as Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes and Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris, Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, and Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam.

In 2008, Professor Veluthat successfully completed a major research project funded by the Ford Foundation, titled the “Historical Atlas of South India,” showcasing his dedication to scholarly pursuits. His expertise has been shared through lectures and presentations at prestigious international conferences held at Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and various universities in Germany.

Beyond academia, Professor Veluthat has been actively involved with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), contributing to the evaluation and assessment of universities and colleges across India. His association with historical congresses extends to chairing sessions at the Andhra Pradesh and Punjab History Congress.

Professor Veluthat’s body of work encompasses a wide range of subjects, reflected in his authored and edited volumes. Notable publications include “Brahman Settlements in Kerala: Historical Studies,” “The Political Structure of Early Medieval South India,” and “Kerala Through the Ages,” among others. His editorial endeavors have also left a mark, with volumes such as “Kerala State and Society in Pre-modern South India” and “Irreverent History: Essays for M. G. S. Narayanan” showcasing his scholarly acumen and collaborative spirit. In addition to his contributions in English, Professor Veluthat has authored several books in Malayalam, exploring the intersections of history and literature in the language, and has played a significant role in editing a Latin-Malayalam dictionary volume.
