Professor Raj Sekhar Basu
Professor Raj Sekhar Basu is a faculty member in the Department of History at the University of Calcutta. He holds memberships on the Editorial Boards of prestigious academic journals such as Archiv Orientali (Czech Academy, Prague), Acta Orientalica (Center of Oriental Studies, Vilnius University), and The International Journal of Area Studies (Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas).
Throughout his career, Professor Basu has received recognition and support for his scholarly work. In 1995, he was awarded the Rotary Fellowship to conduct research in Brazil and the USA. Subsequently, in 2000 and 2009, he received the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute Fellowship, furthering his academic pursuits. Additionally, he has been the recipient of various grants, including the Wellcome Trust Travelling Grant (2002 and 2006), Fulbright Grant (2003), and Charles Wallace Indian Trust Grants (2006).
Professor Basu’s scholarly contributions extend across numerous publications, with nearly fifty papers published in journal articles and book chapters. He has also made significant contributions to various encyclopedias, including Banglapaedia, the Encyclopedia of Asia, and the Encyclopedie Des Historiographies.
In recognition of his expertise, Professor Basu served as the ICCR Chair Professor in Indian Studies at Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania, from 2011 to 2014. Additionally, he held the position of Treasurer of the Indian History Congress from 2010 to 2013, demonstrating his commitment to advancing historical scholarship and academic institutions.
