Professor Umesh Bagade’s research interests lie in the history of anti-caste movements, intellectual and social history of modern Maharashtra, and studies of caste economy and caste-gender consciousness. He has authored works such as Reform Movement of Maharashtra and Caste-Class Hegemony (Sugawa Prakashan, 2006), Mahatma Jyotirao Phule (Shabd Publication, 2022), and Ambedkar’s Historical Method: A Non-Brahminic Critique of Positivist History (Critical Quest, 2015). He has served as Director of the Rajashri Shahu Maharaj Research Center, a member of the advisory board of the Centre of Freedom Struggle (IGNOU, New Delhi), and has availed three terms of associateship at IIAS (Shimla). Additionally, he has served as the President of the Nana Patil Academy.
